Public Art in Public Schools

Percent for Art

Working through the Department of Cultural Affairs the DOE and SCA provide direct commissions to artists for the independent creation of permanent artworks for new school buildings. For more information see the Art Collection or visit the Percent for Art Web site. Interested artists can also download a Percent for Art registry application on that site. PKSB Architects works to insure that this integration of art and public space within the new schools creates something unique and inspirational. This work entitled "Urban Intersections" by Ross Lewis and which resides within Pioneer Academy PS307  school in Queens NY is about journey and the hopes and dreams that come with it. Multi-colored glass mosaic and large format tile applied upon undulating walls create a work that is nearly 80 feet in length.
